I don't know what authority MLB would have to deny a casino near a baseball field.
I was unaware MLB had such power.
If a Casino were to open in that area I believe they would score big with all the highways
and the subway near by to bring the people in and the fact that the city would like to relocate
the auto businesses they could really have something good with restaurants, casinos and ballpark.

Cleveland just last year opened the Horseshoe Casino within two blocks of Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena.. It has been highly sucessful in giving fans a place to go after each event. Every game i went to last year, there were always groups of people who had planned on adding the Casino to their schedule of events before calling it a night. Weekends were packed.

I can understand, though, that the Wilpoons would be looking for ways to score big, hard and fast. They could have it built in time to film Oceans XLVIII there, I betcha.

I seriously doubt we will ever see a casin next to a MLB stadium. Wilpon and Katz are pisssing in the wind here. Even their buddy Selig wouldn't agree to this even if it was permissible (which it currently is not).

Willet's point is the home of cheap auto shops and scrapyards because...well...what the hell else are you going to put there? There's nothing else around! To the west you have the stadium, MTA rail yards to the south, and the giant clusterfuck of highways blocking the north and east (which are blocking the marina and the heavily industrial area of College Point respectively).

Add that to the fact that it's a very difficult area to get to and it makes me wonder what the hell is the rush for "urban renewal" in that area. If you need an area for a lot of unsightly scrap yards and auto shops, I can think of no better place to put it.
