Torii Hunter Jr. signs to play football at Notre Dame

Torii Hunter Jr. made a verbal commitment to Notre Dame back in September and stuck with his plan, signing a national letter of intent with the Fighting Irish today.

Hunter, whose dad Torii Sr. signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Tigers this offseason, is a “four star” wide receiver from Prosper, Texas who was offered a scholarship by a bunch of prominent programs.

His status as a freshman is in some doubt, however, because Hunter broke his femur while practicing for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl last month and will need 6-8 months to recover, suggesting he might end up redshirting.

Our friends over at Inside The Irish have a whole lot more about Hunter, but here’s a highlight video:

He may also end up playing baseball at Notre Dame.

Didn’t know the kid broke his femur. Bad age for a young man to break one of his long bones. Hope it all comes out ok.

Whatever happen to the accusation of rape last year?

    • fatediesel - Feb 6, 2013 at 1:52 PM

The rape accusation wasn’t against Torii Jr., it was against his brother Darius.

Not to presume anything about the guilt of the other Hunter, but even if it had been Torii Jr., who was accused, it may not have mattered to Notre Dame, or they may not have had any moral high ground for it to matter:

It may seem horrible, but based on my experience at Universities, this is pretty typical…and it really isn’t just associated with athletes. Universities do all they can to massage crime stats on campus (especially violent crimes), including ignoring accusations and coercing witnesses and victims….if that doesn’t work, they’ll often just lie. This is the kind of PR that every university tries to avoid, and if that means ignoring a few dozen rape victims/year….well….

Thank you for slinging mud for the sake of slinging mud. Torii Jr committing to Notre Dame has nothing to do with the article linked. I can’t understand why you would even bring that into this conversation. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

I wish him a healthy, happy, and successful career, even if it is at Notre Dame. May he upgrade the current level of honor and intelligence in the ND program.

Cue the Tori Sr. anti-‘gay remarks with Tori Jr. going to ND with the Manti/I’m confused gay friend drama
