UPDATE: FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that Lyon is set to receive between $750,000 and $900,000 guaranteed. He could max out at $2.4 million if he reaches certain incentives.

11:51 AM: Earlier this week the Mets were said to be close to signing right-hander Brandon Lyon and now Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that the two sides have agreed to a one-year deal.

Lyon obviously isn’t a big name, but he’s coming off a season in which he threw 61 innings with a 3.10 ERA and 63/20 K/BB ratio and has a combined 3.59 ERA in 434 innings during the past six seasons.

He’ll likely start out in a setup role, but could get some save chances if Frank Francisco struggles as closer again.

I think Collins needs to create the worst closer by committee situation in baseball. He’s certainly got all the pieces.

I would rather trust Lyon than Francisco. I have seen both of them pitch during the last 2 seasons.
