Agreed, but at this point in the season they have the flexibility to step back a bit and let some of this discomfort subside, so they’re taking advantage of it. Farrell likes to hear himself talk sometimes, but it makes perfect sense not to push it before Valentine’s Day. If you want to make fun, wait until guys start playing through stuff while pumped to the withers with tranquilizers or antifreeze or whatever else the team is issuing this year. That’s what warrants attention. This is sensible.

Also, the Boston media has a tendency to overreact to certain words, and INJURED in one of them. Soft-pedaling hot button words is just how you need to roll in Beantown.

I agree that Craig may have gone a little overboard (too narrative?) trying to make this more of a story than it is. But, if they had the same condition in the regular season and couldn’t pitch for a week or two, I bet it would be an “injury” so they could put them in the DL and call someone up.

To me there was always a distinct difference between “Injured” and “hurt”. Being injured meant that you were going to be out of commission from what ever you were doing for some time and was some sort of significant pain/damage. Being hurt is something, at least to me, that is nagging and more along the “sore” and “achy” side of things that might be unpleasant but in the grand scheme is not a big deal. Now, if sore elbows turned out to be a strained/damaged ligament then THAT would certainly be an injury.

I’d say his definition is pretty similar to every other person in professional sports. Soreness or discomfort does not equal injury in the sports world.

I get the snark, and it may be warranted, however anyone that uses their body for a living whether it be in sports (which I played in college) or for manual labor (which I did for awhile) knows that everyday is filled with discomfort, irritation and lack of strength. It doesn’t mean you’re injured though.
