I actually think they are going to be mediocre no matter what, but you are right overall. And yet, there are some decent OFs out there that won’t cost much and will be a step up from Kirk and Cowgill.

Why sign an outfielder when your only reason for avoiding a dead last finish this year is Miami? Why throw money at a team that’s going to be bad regardless? Mets need to lay low, accumulate prospects, let the ones they have mature. They’re not close.

As I’ve pointed out in the past the reason Wilpon, Loria, Dolan, Nutting and Glass continue to retain control of their teams because of one man; Bud Selig. When the man at the top protects it’s cronies from standards that would be applied to others one has a problem. However because the media doesn’t care or outright hates the teams they won’t press Selig on his hypocrisy.

Ebenezer Loria and Fast Freddy Wilpon actually have a lot in common. They are both lying crooks who took down the fans while enriching themselves. Notice Wilpon said we don’t have any “personal debt”. True you protected your own wealth by siphoning money from the Mets. Your corporations still owes hundred of millions that will end up being settled in bankruptcy court. They both reduced payroll this past off season and the both care nothing about winning. The two of them don’t make one.

The Wilpoons aren't in Scrooge's class. They screwed themselves. They screwed the team. For all I know, they even screwed the pooch. But they did not even come close to doing to New York what Scrooge McLoria and the Chihuahua inflicted upon Macondo with the Macondo Banana Massacre Field scam. Not even proximate to close. If you scaled up for an accurate comparison, you'd be talking about the theft of an amount equal to the entire national budget of a third world armpit with nuclear ambitions. The Wilpoons aren't even marginally bright enough to pull that off.

He hasn’t alienated me; and I trust in Sandy Alderson and am glad they didn’t spend the money on Bourn. But if things are fine, why aren’t they signing any outfielders? It is a bit fishy.
