Yesterday’s MRI exam on Ryan Madson‘s elbow showed no structural damage, but the Angels reliever will wait at least another week before throwing as he continues his comeback from Tommy John surgery.

Madson, who missed all of last season, stopped his throwing program after experiencing soreness on February 1 and no longer seems likely to be ready by Opening Day.

He agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Angels that included another $3.5 million in potential incentives and first crack at the closer role, but for now at least Ernesto Frieri is back atop the bullpen depth chart.

This is why the Scott Boras style of sucking every penny from a team is a flawed approach. Last year Madson left 3 and 4 year deals at 8m per on the table until the market went dry and he got a 1 year deal for less money from the Reds. Bottom line he is damaged goods who will lose out on about 20m because of Boras.

Good news for the Halos, I guess. Hopefully he can contribute this year then.
