Mike Trout gained 10-15 pounds during the offseason

While Josh Hamilton dropped 20 pounds during the offseason due to a change in his diet, it seems his new teammate, Mike Trout, was busy bulking up.

Trout was listed at 210 pounds last season, but that number could be a bit misleading, as he was really sick during spring training and saw his weight drop from 220 to 208. He got back to his normal weight and then some as the season wore on, so this isn’t as big of a jump as it appears. Still, it’ll be interesting to see if the extra weight translates to more power and less stolen bases. Of course, Trout is a freak of nature, so the standard speculation might not apply with him.

On a related note, when Alden Gonzalez of traveled to Trout’s hometown of Millville, New Jersey last month, he was told that the 21-year-old’s standard meal at his favorite restaurant, Jim’s Lunch, is six hamburgers. Not surprisingly, Trout’s dad described his son as “an eater.”

    Obviously this kid is too young to know any better or too stupid and if that’s not the case I really hope he spits after blowing Trout.

    I don’t know that I’d have wanted to gain weight after last year. Last year was so good I wouldn’t have changed anything. I’d still be wearing the same underwear. When you are that good, any change is highly likely to be a change for the worse, because it would be hard to get better.

      But he said he loses five to ten pounds during spring training. It’s normal to gain weight if you aren’t as active. It’s nothing to worry about. Funny how some people want to make a big deal out of this.

    haha uhhh yeah Mike you might need to change your diet in a few years. Metabolism doesn’t exactly burn the same way it does when you’re 21.

    Trout is jacked up. He has the appetite of Bill Brasky. Ain’t no Hollywood seaweed diet for him.

    He’s cruising around with Guy Fieri eating as much as possible.

    I won’t imply he is juicing, as I would hope he is smart enough not to do it. Also, if he hadn’t done it previously, he would already have proven he didn’t need it, so there would be no reason to start.

    But, I find it interesting that so many want to assume Hamilton’s weight loss means he stopped juicing, but weight gain does not bring the inverse reaction.

    My first thought on this though, was of Marty Cordova. Cordova was never in Trout’s class, but he did win Rookie of the Year in 1995. He then fell in love with bulking up, and his game dropped off significantly. Hope the extra bulk doesn’t cause problems for Trout, as he could be a superstar. (I say “could be a superstar” instead of “is a superstar” because it takes more than one season to get there and stay there.
