These guys (anonymous and otherwise) will surprise this season, I predict. Look for the Astros to finish above the Mariners in the AL West. OK, I know I’m not really out on a limb on that one, but regardless, they’ll finish ahead of the Ms and Wedge will be packin’ his bags at season’s end.

So ball players making the roster, some of them for the first time; don’t deserve any recognition and it’s not an honor? Last time I checked, the Astros (while crappy) are still a MLB team. Go Stros!

This is a hell of a lot better than the last couple of years. It will take time.
Looking forward to watching this team grow with youth, fueled by strong annual pipeline from the minors, something the previous management ignored.

This will make us appreciate the good times to come.

Ps… I speak for all Astro fans, letting Jim Deshais go was pathetic. Lifelong Astro who is one of the smartest analysts in the game… And funny enough to keep tuning into 107 losses.

If they can give 110% by remembering there is no “i” in team then all that gritty spring training momentum can carry over into the regular season where anything can happen as long as they are generating runs through hard work and the sacrifice bunt.

I like the idea. Love it. I would actually prefer all of my favorite sports teams to do it…maybe its a little cheesey, but it would feel that much more rewarding when you see a jersey with your number AND name on it one day when you know youve made it…symbolic of the team coming together as well.

This is going to be hell on anyone calling an Astros game for TV or radio. Even with the names on the back, most announcers probably wouldn’t recognize 90% of the players in Astros camp.

Hoo boy. That reeks of Todd Haley not allowing logos on the Chiefs’ helmets during training camp until the player had “earned” the right to have it, and not just for the rookies. This was veterans too. No word on when exactly it was determined that someone had earned it, but Todd Haley worked out so well in Kansas City…

The Cowboys do something similar in the NFL… I think it’s that every rookie in training camp has a blank helmet. You’re supposed to “earn the Star.”

Love me some Bo Porter. Was hoping he would stick around and be Davey’s heir in DC but I wish him well in Houston. As far as the name thing, I see nothing wrong with it because like the article said this is a high school or college move, and the Astros roster pretty much fits that description.
