Good news and bad news about Delmon Young

Feb 15, 2013, 10:30 AM EDT

First, from two days ago, the good news:

Now, from Matt Gelb’s report this morning, the bad news:

Young is already behind schedule. The controversial outfielder reported to camp Friday morning but did not speak to reporters. Young had microfracture surgery on his ankle in November. It’s unknown when he will be ready to play in Grapefruit League games, or if he will at all.

As Gelb notes, then, the idea that Domonic Brown and Darin Ruf were somehow fighting for one job may not be the case. If both shine, they could both be starting in Opening Day.

Some of consider “behind schedule” as good news…..the sooner he moves on the better.

Light a fire under Dom Brown, done. He has served his purpose, move along tubby

If this move does not work out, it proves Ruben Amaro, Jr. is a clueless idiot, lost without Pat Gillick. If it works…he’s an average GM at best.

    Svelte Delmon Young, fans!

Good news, he looks less like Chunk.

    Bad news, he can’t hit.

Yeah, this is good news. One step closer to Delmon Young not being the opening day starter in RF.

Did anyone ask Young if his weight lose was due to him not taking PEDs? WHY WONT SOMEONE ASK THIS?!?!?!?

    • Old Gator - Feb 15, 2013 at 11:36 AM

Because no one gives a shit anymore except a bunch of obsessed trog-outs.

And it really doesn’t matter. He’s Gowachin guilty anyway.

      • Gamera the Brave - Feb 15, 2013 at 11:54 AM

Okay, you win, Gator – I had to look up “Gowachin”, and discovered a hole in my Frank Herbert knowledge. On the other hand, Herbert was once a reporter for my hometown newspaper, and wrote one of his shorter (and less excellent) novels about a thinly-veiled version of said hometown…

Elmon may be the next Vladimir Harkonnen if that movie ever gets made (again)

    • historiophiliac - Feb 15, 2013 at 12:05 PM

Because everyone already knows the Phillies are paying him to lose weight. For it to work, it has to be a good troll.

    • Old Gator - Feb 15, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Gamera: heh heh, I always figgered “Santaroga” was a place he knew.

Weaselpuppy: it will keep on getting made again until there’s a version so utterly awful that not even Ed Wood Jr. would have touched it again. I think it’s a minor miracle that Kyle McLaghlan was able to survive both Dune and Showgirls with his career more or less intact. Either one should have been enough to consign him to the summer stock theater circuit. Even a cat would have used up its nine credits from Blue Velvet by now.

Incidentally, if you ever do find a magnetic-repulsion jacket that can actually float Delmon Young, there’s a Nobel Prize in it for you.

working on making Elmon into an axlotl tank may be more realistic….

One can only hope he loses the use of that leg. Some people get the chair. He deserves it. Karma, scumbag.

    • Old Gator - Feb 15, 2013 at 11:39 AM

Not Karma. Gowachin guilt. It is the only legal and ethical standard by which the entire PED issue can be judged inobjectively.

Craig will shortly be sworn in as only the second hominid Gowachin legum, and we may all look forward to his detailed exposition of how the Gowachin legal dysystem would handle the entire issue – because it’s the only one that can.

    • aceshigh11 - Feb 15, 2013 at 1:40 PM

      You’re trying WAY too hard.

      • Old Gator - Feb 15, 2013 at 2:18 PM

Nope. It’s totally effortless. Learn yourself up on Gowachin jurisprudence. It fits the PED discourse – as inane, convoluted and pointless as it is – like an oven mitt.

Wait, which is the bad news again? I’m confused about everything involving Delmon Young and him playing in the outfield or something?!?!
