While Reyes and Buehrle have no one but themselves to blame for signing without anything more concrete than Loria’s “promise” not to trade them, the fact is the purge trade signaled to all other players once and for all that Loria and Co. cannot be trusted one bit.

Anthopoulos dealt with Scrooge McLoria and his cult for a couple of weeks, and his contempt is already palpable.

A lying scumbag is just that, and he won’t change voluntarily because being a lying scumbag is working for him. If players, agents and fans of the Marlins believe anything Loria or his mouth pieces say at this point, after he’s clearly established himself as a lying scumbag, then they only have themselves to blame when the inevitable disappointment kicks in.

But that’s neither here nor there. We’re basically on the same side when it comes to the team. But this isn’t about the team per se. It’s about what kind of conniving swine it has for an owner.

Loria looked Reyes in the eyes, smiled, and lied. A few months before that he looked Mark Buehrle in the eyes, smiled, and lied. A few years earlier he looked Carlos Delgado in the eyes, smiled, and told the same lie. I’m sick of seeing crooks, liars and con men let off the hook for their moral dereliction because they’re “businessmen,” as if that were all the justification they needed for preying on their communities. If his victims were gullible and Scrooge knew it and preyed on their gullibility, sorry, whereas I see clearly the contributory ineptitude of the victim, that doesn’t absolve Scrooge of his moral abdication. It only makes it seem even more disgusting. Would you admire a burglar who pistol-whipped an old lady for her wedding ring because he was “successful” and got away clean? I still think you need to take off those rose-tinctured binoculars and see Scrooge McLoria for what he really is.

Which isn’t much.

A. I’m hardly some starry eyed kid. Loria is a businessman who has made a ton of money in baseball. He has done what he deems necessary to sustain his wealth and let’s not pretend like he has not invested one cent into the Franchise and into the city and that his personal greed drives his every motive. The devil incarnate he is not.
B. Secondly, like I’ve been saying and to those lucky enough to not watch a Marlins game last year. We were dreadful. Terrible. Painful to the eye. Clutch like Casey at the bat. The team needed drastic change from top to bottom regardless of the money
C. We had absolutely zip in our farm system aside from Fernandez and Yelich. Now we have what? 6 to 8 of the top 100? Granted prospects are no guarantee but like what we saw from the 06 team, and with a guy like Redmond as manager, this team will fight and scrape for every win and I think will be rather enjoyable to watch at times.
D. I know, I know, it crimps your style that I find optimism in a situation where you all laugh at Marlins fans who believe in the direction of this team, but I’d rather blow up my roster and try again, then continually failing with the same overpriced players who aren’t working out so much. I know, I know. I’m the crazy one

I can’t recall offhand if I was directed to that article by something here on Circling the Bases or whether my friend in Toronto sent me the link, but man, you have got to stop making excused for that miserable, conniving, thieving piece of shit, Scrooge McLoria. He genuinely is everything you seem to want to believe he isn’t.

Deal with it: stop kidding yourself, and stop bullshitting us.

It is sad because Redmond could and would have the support of the fan base if it wasn’t for this owner. I have found myself getting seduced again by this team but make no mistake I will not invest my time or money going to Fl from VA to watch them like I did several times last year. We always have the Nats right up the road and they have been doing things the right way. Maybe Loria or new ownership can learn from them.

According to that time line, Reyes name came up and he was in the deal on November 8th. On November 12th, Loria was part of a conference call. The deal was leaked/announced on November 13th. According to the Story Reyes was vacationing in Dubai at the time of the deal.

Did Reyes really have dinner with Loria on the 11th and was in Dubai on the 13th?

Obviously, it doesn’t have full details of when Loria was notified of what was being negotiated, or how involved he was- but at least in this version, he wasn’t called until Monday Nov 12th; the deal was dead in the morning of the 13th, then agreed to in the afternoon of the 13th, with players being notified that evening. So it’s possible that Loria didn’t know that Reyes was being shipped off 2 days before he was traded (Sunday the 11th) when they supposedly had dinner.

Also, it notes that Reyes was vacationing in Dubai on the 13th. Again, we don’t have all the facts from this article that can help construct a full timeline- possibly Reyes left for Dubai on Monday after having dinner with Loria on Sunday? Or Reyes and Loria had dinner in Dubai on Sunday?
