Not quite as good as when the Sports Media elite declared the Red Sox the “Best Team On Paper” a couple of years back and practically handed them the World Series Trophy before a single game had been played.

I can’t speak for other Red Sox fans, but I don’t expect others are looking for a playoff spot with this roster, either. If everything breaks right? Sure! Lester and Buccholz are a pretty darn good 1-2, and Ellsbury, Pedroia, Ortiz and Middlebrooks are building blocks to a very good lineup. But, no, they’re not likely to go to the playoffs.

What do I want? I want them to play entertaining baseball while giving time for the prospects to develop. A one-year deal to Mike Napoli or Steven Drew bothers me not at all. Three years to Shane Victorino? That could block a better player from taking over in 2015, which would be a shame.

For now, I think they’re going in the right direction.

That would be the first time in rexent memory there were more jays fans at the ballpark than sox fans. And yes. The Red Sox are a lot better than last year. Bitter Jays fans. When’s the last time you won a thing? Keep talking.

navytech, I understand where you are coming with the comment about the stars getting a year older. But to be fair ever teams stars got a year older. As for the Yankees didn’t improve. I would point out 2 things considering the Yankees won 95 games last year they really didn’t need to improve to much. Having said that I would suggest they did improve. Pettitte baring an injury should be available to start more then 12 games the amount he started in 2012. The Yankees will have Ichiro for the entire season and anyone that watch him for the brief 2 odd months he was with the Yankees should know he did a great job. I happen to be one of the Yankee fans that don’t think they will miss Swisher with Ichiro in RF. Gardner will be back full time in LF (of CF if they switch Granderson).he tends to make a lot of things happen offensively and defensively he maybe one of the best outfielders in MLB. As for the catching position I don’t think losing Martin will be as big a set back as some think. I honestly believe Romine will get the starting job if not immediately by June 1st at the latest. And he’s a very good defensive catcher and once he gets back into a rhythm after his back injury in 2012. But we will have to wait and see how all of this shakes out, that’s why they play the games.

This is the first year in a LONG time that I (Red Sox fan) have not expectations going into the year. I don’t expect the RS to make the playoffs however, the Yankees haven’t done anything to improve and their ‘stars’ are another year older. Losing Martin will hurt. As for the Orioles, they will probably prove to be one-year wonders. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Jays finish in first nor would it be shocking if they finished in last. Spending money does not equal victories. It will be an intersting year for the A.L. East.

Come on Red Sox fans do you guys actually believe that signing Napoli, Victorino, Ross, Drew, Gomes and Dempster significantly improves the Red Sox in 2013 over how they performed in 2012 when they went 69-93.
