I think alot of Yankees fans miss the day when you knew George was gonna do whatever he could to put the best team on the field. Things are somewhat different since he died, but maybe that’s not surprising- hardly any owners have been as fanatical about trying to put a great team on the field. So, inevitably, many fans are going to yearn for the ‘good old days’ when things comparatively seem a little off.

For all the complaining you hear about the Yankees and their financial advantages, they are a ticket-selling machine for all the other teams in MLB, too. I know in Seattle, they sell more tickets when the NYY are here than at any other time in the season. And games against the NYY are probably some of the best games alot of teams play, too, because everyone steps it up when the NYY are playing, cause no one wants to lose to them.

The message is simple, if you are going to start penny pinching on payroll, then give the fans a break as well because we can’t afford it anymore. It pains me because I’ve been a season ticket holder for over 25 years but I simply can’t do it anymore. The new Steinbrenner’s have lost all sight of reality which is you can’t charge insane prices for every game and expect people to show up regardless of talent or opponent. The attendance will only get worse as the prices keep going up or even remain stagnant, that is guaranteed.

Are we spoiled? Sure, Braves fans are as well, and both have attendance issues, but I guarantee Yankee fans would go if prices were more realistic. People on the outside don’t see these issues, they only see what is shown on tv which is $2,000 dollar seats which used to cost under a 100 less than 10 years ago, all empty.

I’d rather have Nunez’ bat, speed an all round athleticism but unfortunately that comes with his glove too. But, who knows maybe he develops into a decent defensive 3B. Youkilis, ..as long as he stays healthy a one year deal is fine. In fact, if he’s healthy he’s very dangerous clutch bat.

That is the Yankees way of doing business. And, that has got them into the playoffs more than any other team in the past 20 years. That is the very definition of perennial contender. The annual dire predictions of Yankee doom and gloom not withstanding I have faith that Cashman and the Yankees will do what needs to be done to stay perennial contenders.

Boss man has done this all while putting a consistent almost yearly contender on the field the last almost two decades now. Of course the accomplishments feel watered down. This has let to the change of emotions when we merely advanced in the playoffs in 96 to disappointment when we don’t at least advance to the world series now.

What I know: as a baseball fan, I can’t name one other ownership group that has given in to the fans demands as frequently as the Steinbrenners. None more dedicated in putting up the scratch in fielding a world series caliber roster.

Yes, and Rivera is likely entering his final season in the majors. Jeter is also nearing the end of his career, and Cano could very well depart as a free agent following this season. Not to mention Cano is by far the youngest of those three players. All those facts support my argument, not yours.

You’re right though – prospects can either turn into consistent everyday players, or they’re busts. However it doesn’t really change the fact that the Yankees have relied mostly on their farm system as trade bait in order to bring in veterans to win now. That mentality is finally catching up to the team and the organization.

Honestly, can you be excited about Kevin Youkilis being your full-time third basemen for possibly the entire season? And what about Curtis Granderson and all his strikeouts? Same goes for Cano and Teixeira.

You don’t understand though. Players that are acquired via trade are fine for other teams, but it’s only because of the money the Yanks get them. Players that were Yankee farm hands and were traded only to become good players were terrible on the Yanks and only became good due to the other team’s farm system, so they don’t count either. Yankee farm hands aren’t considered home grown either, for a reason I’ve never got an answer to.

The Yanks field 25 mercenaries with an additional 15 on their 40 man roster. That’s the way it’s always been, and that’s the way it always will be…
