Paper you make fair points, but I’m not a baseball writer or a journalist of any sort and so I don’t have to preserve my integrity or wait for further evidence. I can throw my opinion around these comments like they are worth nothing, b/c well let’s face it, they are. So, in that vein, these fuckers cheated and you know it. The amount of accusations of PED use in all sports over the last 20 years that turned out wrong (i.e. zero by my count) should show you that. That also counts as evidence to me. Everyone accused always says they didn’t use, and the facts have bourn out (where possible) that they did use. I call that a “common theme” body of evidence.

I’m of a mind that I could really care less one way or the other if someone is using PEDs. But then again, I don’t look at these players as heros or above me in any way (besides athletic ability). Even if I used PEDs and trained 80 hours a week I *still* wouldn’t be able to play professional baseball. I get that, and I’m fine with it.

With that said, the reason baseball is doing this “witch hunt” is that they are trying to stop PED use for those who *do* care about such things. If they just ignore it, then they’re approving of it. If they can dig down enough and enough players are implicated, punished, etc… they’re hoping that they can stem the use of said PEDs.

They’re pretty much stuck fighting this war. Sure it isn’t good for the game, but it would be worse if they ignored it….

To some degree your right. We dont have all the facts. However, from day one, it was reported that Gio’s name showed up in an area like notes. Not in a ledger, not in a receipt, not as a patient, not as a client, not truly affiliated with them in any way. And most sports writers never said that in their articles referring to him. Thats why im offended, not because he is on my team, but because there was never anything there and some writers just used his name for their own personal gains.

Evidence against Gio was stronger than it is against some of these other names on a piece of paper. Why should we believe any of it then if 2 weeks ago we were convinced Gio MUST have been guilty since his name was on this list?

This story is on its last legs. Nobody cares.

Exactly….every time there is a report I start in internal chant (similar to the “no whammies, no whammies, no whammies” chant from press your luck) that no Cardinals are on the list….especially considering that Jon Jay is from Miami, played for the UM baseball team, and was a Braun team mate.

There is a logic fail for you.

The point, obviously, is that people (like you, again, obviously) would rather believe what is convenient for you to believe (which usually involves a refusal to change ones mind, even when the currently held opinion is based on no information whatsoever) rather than what the evidence supports. It is the same with the attitude of Americans toward evolution, which is characterized as a debate in science, when the debate about if evolution occurs ended in the middle of the 19th century, since then the entire discussion has been about how it happens. Nonetheless, many choose to think its existence is actively debated by those that study it so they can continue to think what they want to.

With attitudes like this, society really doesn’t have a chance with such high population levels.

The latest article said they had computerized records, but even those are chancy, using nicknames (“Gladiator” for Gio? More probably for his father, Max=Maximo? who went there for weight loss) and misspelling the names of substances. I don’t know about the documents, but the clinic and the “doctor” don’t inspire confidence.

And, I know it takes time to do “investigative reporting.” But it’s curious that just as this was out of the headlines and we were on to the usual spring training bravado, injuries and clubhouse sniping–here comes Biogenesis again.

My source says Gio Gonzalez did buy PEDs. Don’t even talk about unnamed sources on this story though. It’s about players on a list. I bet they can find all kinds of sources who says a specific player didn’t do it. Being on the list doesn’t really prove anything but it makes the players look bad.
