Must-click link: Juan Sandoval trying to make the Rays despite being blind in one eye

Feb 20, 2013, 9:40 AM EDT

Jose Molina, Juan Sandoval

The headline pretty much says it all about Jeff Passan’s story at Yahoo! today. Journeyman pitcher Juan Sandoval, blinded in his right eye by buckshot several years ago, is in Tampa Bay Rays camp trying to make the team.

He’s 32 and he’s spent the past couple of years in the Mexican League after failing to find a home in a big league origination, but the Rays are taking a chance on the live-armed reliever.

    The rays? Or the Rays?

Yeah, this comment pretty much makes no sense now that the headline has been corrected.

Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for him to pitch for the Pirates?

      ARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

He’ll be throwing to a Molina. That’ll help.

Man I hope he can make it. We need an old school baseball guy like this, call em one eyed Juan, or One Blink Sandoval. A nickname from the early 1900’s will do.

    Juan-Eyed Sandy?

Someone else already had an article on this from hardball talk so this is old news
