It just shows you how hard it is to bring up a strong farm system. This is why I think there should be some kind of cap. I wasn’t for it when I was younger but seeing how it is SO difficult to bring up a healthy and strong farm system i’m all for it now these past few years. The Rays are the exception, the Indians, Mariners, and Royals are the rule. I hope the Royals can turn it around and get production but it looks like the M’s have given up on a lot of their young prospects.

If Carp makes the team out of Spring Training, do the Mariners get a somewhat decent player in return? It’s funny to me that the Mariners might be hoping that Carp does really well with the Red Sox so they get a good player in return but at the same time if he performs well for the Red Sox then they will miss out on that production.

Like most of Cherington’s offseason moves, this is not a “sexy” pickup. However, Carp is certainly a decent guy to have on the bench and he’s probably a better backup option than Overbay. Plus the Sox have control for a few seasons if he works out.
