Miguel Cabrera murdered a baseball

Feb 25, 2013, 3:35 PM EDT

Miguel Cabrera faced off against Jonathan Papelbon today. Then this happened:

Gotta tell ya, I really think Papelbon wouldn’t have gotten rocked like that if someone in the Phillies clubhouse had shown more leadership. What is Michael Young there for, anyway?

BTW:  Wait until the end of the clip: “is that over the tiki bar??!”  That’s almost as good as “Si or no, motherf***er ??!!”

Baseball is back, folks. It doesn’t count yet, but it’s back.

    Scary headline….for a split sec I thought ….

  2. Old Gator - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:42 PM

Ah, but shots like that still “count” in a respiratory sense, don’t they?

  3. sophiethegreatdane - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:47 PM

Mighty is suuuuch a Professional Hitter.

    • sophiethegreatdane - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:46 PM

      Miggy!! GD autocorrect crap.

      • Old Gator - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:52 PM

        I dunno. It worked, kinda.

      • historiophiliac - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:26 PM

A dog cussing out a phone re: spelling. Awesome. lol

  4. kjkulsrud - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Then celebrated with a drink… at least he is hitting something besides his wife.

    • gigab0t - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:54 PM

      …Yankee fan?

      • kjkulsrud - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:30 PM

Nope! Just hate to see someone who is a pretty horrible human being be idolized by anyone.

    • number42is1 - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:06 PM

Seth McFarlane wants a word with you…

    BUT HIS WAR!!!!!!

    • 18thstreet - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:22 PM

Just to be clear: we all think Miguel Cabrera is very, very good at baseball. Just that, last year, Mike Trout was better.

  6. Jeremy T - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:54 PM

Ahhh, I love being reminded that, regardless of arguments picking apart everything he’s ever done, Miguel Cabrera can flat-out hit. That was a thing of beauty.

    • cosanostra71 - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:47 PM

Prince Fielder hit the crap out of a ball the other day too. They definitely have some great hitters in their lineup.

  7. cur68 - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:03 PM

Si. Tiki bar, fence and into the parking lot. Somebody’s BSOHL.

    • historiophiliac - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:13 PM

      Si! Miggy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Final score 10-1

      • cur68 - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:22 PM

Si, it was Miggy’s day all right. He could see Papelbon wasn’t getting any called strikes away and was waiting on that up and middle of the plate pitch. Ka-RUSHED it.

In other noteworthy game points, Ryan Howard got a hit off a lefty. Don’t look shocked. S’True. He really did.

      • historiophiliac - Feb 25, 2013 at 7:23 PM

BTW, we have a Tuiasosopo on the team. I figured you’d want that alert.

      • cur68 - Feb 25, 2013 at 7:30 PM

Saw that during the Tigers’ loss to the Beav. 1B, if I recall. I feel he’s untrustworthy. Seemed sort of . . . unreliable.

      • historiophiliac - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:25 PM

        Booooo!!!!!

  8. shaggylocks - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:16 PM

Aw man: baseball. You’re almost back.

  9. dowhatifeellike - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:19 PM

Jesus. That wasn’t even close to being a strike. Some Jeters would just take that pitch off the elbow. Miggy sent it into the next time zone.

    • southofheaven81 - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:45 PM

Some people have to turn EVERY damn cool thing into an anti-Jeter shot. He let the league in hits last year. Butthurt much?

  10. Brian Murphy - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:25 PM

I love the replay of Cabrera’s swing from the first-base dugout. That ball is up by his letters, and look at how far he has to pull his hands in to get to that ball. And he STILL launches it 6,000 feet.

    You are left in awe.

    • schlom - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:43 PM

And he didn’t even really use his legs.

  11. beefytrout - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:27 PM

Miguel Cabrera is to baseballs what Craig Calcaterra is to shoehorning Michael Young cut-downs into articles.

  12. philliesblow - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:33 PM

Jake Taylor: That ball wouldn’t have been out of a lot of parks.
    Rick Vaughn: Name one.
    Jake Taylor: Yellowstone?

  13. 13arod - Feb 25, 2013 at 6:13 PM

Wouldn’t surpise me if this guy hits one out of the park this guy muders baseballs every time he hits a ball

  14. Walk - Feb 25, 2013 at 7:14 PM

I was watching that game on tv, papelbon really missed his spot down and in. I thought miggy was gonna drill someone at the bar getting a beer but that ball just kept going.

  15. lostsok - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:11 PM

NoRad reports the ball finally landed. Priest Lake, Idaho. Killed seven trout.

    • Jeremy T - Feb 26, 2013 at 10:39 AM

It seems like whatever this guy does, he keeps on coming up against Trout…

  16. dangernearing - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:26 PM

“That ball was well hit… and its not coming down.” LoL funny line
