A couple guys sitting around without a lot to do at spring training think be could be a fit and start asking questions, so he says he’d love to play more. Anyone who isn’t fully retired would have said the same thing. Thome is in the same boat, but no one asked him such a pointed question and then took that over to a GM and put him on the spot.

Be as snarky as you want, but it’s a perfectly cromulent spring training story when rosters are in flux, old guys are available and better guys are getting hurt.
