Mike Baxter and Gilberto Valle combined to man the left side of New York City high school Archbishop Molloy’s infield in 2002. One went on to play outfield for the New York Mets. The other has been charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping after online chats indicated his desire to cook and eat women.

The connection between the two was first revealed a few months back, but Baxter got asked about it today and issued a no comment.

NYMag.com points out that the 2002 squad featuring Baxter at shortstop and Valle at third won the NYC title and was ranked No. 3 in the East region by USA TODAY.

Valle, a six-year member of the NYPD, is on trial in New York. An FBI agent testified Tuesday on Valle’s reported plans, which included roasting a girl’s arm on a barbecue and “longing for the day i cram a chloroform soaked rag in her face.”

    Mets fans should never forget Mike Baxter. A die-hard Mets fan growing up, he made a spectacular catch to preseve Johan’s no-hitter. He injured himself on the catch and didn’t play the rest of the year.

      Yeah and Johan has never been the same either.

      Gilberto is one sick man, just imagine he was issued a gun and a badge.
      Meanwhile, Bloomberg is running around like a mad man about banning
      beverages larger than 16 oz. I guess that is what you get for electing a guy
      from Boston Mayor of NYC three times and when we finally shove him out
      the door he has recommendations of who should be Mayor, just leave already!

        Yeah, uh…I am not sure if this was the point you were implying, but if you’re saying that Bloomberg is responsible for the NYPD hiring mentally sick people to police the city…that’s not entirely correct. The problem with police forces (and for that matter, the Army as well) recruiting people that have mental health issues of varying degrees is not unique to New York City. It’s a national issue.

        I’m no fan of Bloomberg as a politician, but I don’t understand what culpability he has in this matter.

        *an international issue.

    What in Dog’s Name is going on down there in America? Look, just import some seal blubber from us Canucks, eh? No need to go and fricassée the ladies if you want something sexy good on the ole barbecue.

      A guy sawed up his mothers body and put them in garbage bags for pick up in
      two locations in the Bronx. Now they his friend is being questioned.
      I don’t know if seal blubber will be of help.

      only if you promise not to allow Paul and his ex-wife to crawl on the ice for the photo ops for baby seal clubbing.Is that what you mean by “Idle no More ” The cop thought he was Hannible Lector.Didn’t Paul Benardo and his sick girlfriend do pretty much the same thing in Montreal ? Hell, ya BC boy Robert Picten was grinding up over 45 women bodies in his sauage maker for 10 years. Does this fall under ice fishing or curling ??

    I think that might be my favorite intro paragraph ever to a post here

      Agreed. I was going to say: Nicely done, Matthew. Bravo!

    What does the guy try to convince a gal to get on the giant kettle on the stove?

    I thought he would take a page out of Marv Albert’s book and try biting gals while still uncooked.

      Among other things, he also planned to bind his wife, hang her by her feet, torture her, then kill her, then cook and eat her.

      The other component besides the murder and torture and cannibalism is that he mined NY government databases for information on his targets.

    Reading this story made me really hungry.

    2002 scouting report on Gilberto Valle:

    * Plus range
    * Solid defense
    * Hits for average
    * Five-tool player (Can plot, kidnap, torture, kill, and eat)
    * May have trouble with execution
    * Often carved up by lefties

    Gee you think you know a guy…

    • historiophiliac - Feb 27, 2013 at 7:38 PM

      Exactly. *That’s* the guy you don’t want to shower with after a workout.
