A healthy Wang is never a bad thing. An injured Wang, however, is of no use to anyone.

If the Yankees can get him to a low signing and a bunch of incentives I say go, because Hughes is a DL stint waiting to happen some time this season, and besides I believe this is his walk year and he’ll most likely be gone next year anyway, so give Wang a shot and if he works out, resign him.

I hope wang is healthy and that the Yankees can get him to sign a two-year deal at (relatively) low salary.

A solid outing against team Australia isn’t quite the same as a June start at Fenway either. Teams need to be careful not to read too much into this performance. He is likely nothing more than a cheap gamble at this point.

This Lis Franc injury is not only a fluke…but it is the key to most, if not all of his problems. After suffering the Lis Franc injury in 2008 I believe that there was an attempt to rush Wang back from the DL before seasons end. This failed, and then I think trying to pitch on the sore foot caused him to change his approach, not just to his delivery, but to training and conditioning, which in turn caused injuries and hampered recovery from them. I am not sure that the NYY really need him even if Hughes injury is long term, UNLESS they suspect that another starter is not going to be ready for the first couple months of action.

They’ve got Nova, Phelps, and Pineda for the #5 slot and SWB reserve, so I think they’re ok.

Assuming their just looking for the Hughes stopgap then CMW might fit the bill even with the injury concerns. We’re just short for a certain timeframe.

Wang’s problem is he just can’t stay healthy. He hasn’t played a full season since 2007.

2008: Missed 92 games with a Lis Franc foot injury
2009: Missed 29 games with a hip strain. Missed 82 games with shoulder capsule surgery.
2010: Missed entire season recovering from shoulder surgery.
2011: Missed 104 games recovering from shoulder surgery.
2012: Missed 42 games with a hamstring strain. Missed 58 games with a hip strain.

The Lis Franc injury a fluke, but the other injuries are not good for projecting healthy performance in the future.

Yanks are just dipping their toe into the water here. Long way to go before Wang wears pinstripes again. He’d probably have to be preapred to spend some time at triple A and guys who’ve been in the bigs for a while don’t always want to do that.
That said, being the sentimental guy I am seeing him on the roster again would be cool.

Liked Chien-Ming Wang a lot when he was with the Yankees the first time. Unfortunately since his injury he has not been even remotely the same pitcher and that’s unfortunate. IF and that’s a big IF he can stay reasonably healthy and is willing to take a contract with a whole bunch of incentives and little guaranteed money he wouldn’t be a bad option for any team that wants pitching insurance.
