Brian Cashman broke his ankle sky-diving for charity

Mar 4, 2013, 12:31 PM EDT

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman went sky-diving today to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. The first jump went well, but then Cashman decided to go for a second jump and …

John Harper of the New York Daily News, who tagged along with Cashman, reports that the GM is headed to the hospital with what everyone thinks is a broken ankle. And possibly a compound fracture.

Those poor Yankees, they just can’t catch a break. Oh well, they should land on their feet eventually.

Heard a pop vs possibly a compound fracture. Seems worlds apart.

How does a trampoline look now?

Another Spring Training Empire injury. Will Empire fans demand retribution for this one, too?

Well, never mind the silliness. This is actually too bad for the fundraisers and for Cashman. Charity events shouldn’t end with “bones sticking out”. Get well soon, Mr. Cashman.

As much as I want to hate on the Yanks and the irony of their GM apparently even being brittle, gotta give huge props to Cash and no doubt the organization, for helping out such an incredible cause. When you see stories of some of these clowns getting hurt by tattoos (Andrus), trampolines (Joba), punching walls (Sweeney) you gotta wonder where their heads are at. Unfortunately for Cash in his own way he has become a wounded warrior but for all the right reasons.

    I hope for a speedy recovery !

Joba can sell him some slightly used air casts and splints

Jesus Cashman, stick to repelling down a building. It’s much safer!

Confirmed broken. Hope he has an epiphany while slobbering away on oxycodone over the next few days. SPEND, SPEND, SPEND!!!!!!

Sure, in theory, but the shelves at Free Agents R Us are pretty bare at this point. Want a catcher? Of course you do. Do you want Matt Treanor? Probably not. (What’s he doing still unsigned? Damn near everybody with a catcher’s mitt and a pulse has an NRI this time of year.) Outfield help? There’s Bobby Abreu, Johnny Damon, Scott Podsednik, and Grady Sizmore. Do any of them qualify as help? Another starter? I think they’re ok if Hughes’ back is no worse than they say it is but besides Kyle Lohse, there’s Dallas Braden, Derek Lowe, Brad Penny. . . how about another spin with Carl Pavano? No?

Let me echo the sentiments of others: Thank you for working for a good cause and it sucks that you got hurt doing it.

Hey, Joba, if you are reading this…what’s the phone # for your Voodoo Priestess?

Jwbii- spending in general, not specifically on the remaining free agent scrubs.

Could’ve been worse. He could have been jumping on a trampoline.

    • jwbiii - Mar 4, 2013 at 7:30 PM

Could’ve been far worse. I lost a couple of friends and don’t skydive any more.

Maybe next time he will feel compelled to make a cash donation instead.

Come on really??Another story about the Old Brittle Yankees?

Seriously though, I’d like to be there the next time Cashman crosses paths with Chamberlain.

Strapping that plastic bag with the little picture of the duck holding an umbrella over your cast so you can take a shower in the morning is the most fun you can have with your polyurethane on.

    What a wimp.
