I can’t stand these “X inquired about Y” stories. These are things that are only stories now because there is so much media coverage and only so many real stories. I don’t think a GM talking to another GM about maybe trading for a player or trading away a player counts as anything other than the GM doing his job. “Hey- that pitcher might be available and we could use a pitcher. Maybe I’ll make news and make a phone call!”

Andrus? Sure….and the Cardinals have a bevy of better and cheaper pitcher to offer….none of which matters because the Rangers do not appear to be the least bit interested in trading him.

Yep, he certainly has value. With a good defense, he could be a league average pitcher (of course, a good defense helps EVERY pitcher, so you can’t really give Porcello any credit for the quality of his team mates)….but next year he’ll make at least $7.5M and then probably at least $10 the year after that….so…he’ll be paid about what he’s worth….not exactly extra value in there that would justify a team giving up a quality prospect.

He is….but he’ll never be cheap, he’s already making $5M+ this year. Over the course of his career, he’s been a below average starter, his walks are okay, he barely Ks anyone, but he gets a lot of GBs. He’ll make at least $20M over the next 3 seasons….why not keep all your players and throw in a few more million to get Lohse, who has been a better pitcher the last couple of years?

You Tiger fans are waaaay overrating a guy with a career ERA over 4.5 and WHIP over 1.4. He’s a below average major league pitcher. He would be the 5th man in the Rangers rotation, and there is a good chance he could be pushed to long relief once Colby Lewis returns a month into the season.

I understand he’s got some value. But does this sound like a guy any team would give anything more than a middle-of-the-road prospect for? I say he WOULD be a band-aid or a stopgap. Think about it from a point of view other than Detroit’s.

I agree I don’t think they would, but if the Tigers aren’t getting someone to help right now that has value I wouldn’t make a move just to make a move…hence the request for Andrus. Dombrowski is pretty smart when it comes to trades (except for that Renteria deal, that sucked)

Grimm is obviously not the only piece, but to think Andrus would be involved is absurd. Andrus name has been in talks for JUpton, Stanton, Price, etc. He wouldn’t be headlining a trade for a back of the rotation guy.

Rick Porcello is under team control for three years, and the Rangers would have to pay the Tigers accordingly. He would not be a band-aid or a stopgap. Do you think the Rangers would just release him after he filled “a few months” need?

I agree that Texas wouldn’t want to give too much for RP. I also know the Tigers aren’t going to give him up for a bag of baseballs. Texas won’t be a good trade fit

Porcello is a legit #3 starter for a team with a good D behind him. Any team thinking that Dombrowski is just going to give him away is dreaming.

Texas will need a 5th starter for about a month. I hope if Texas is testing the waters they aren’t offering much in return. Grimm for Porcello? Texas will have Perez coming back, Colby coming back, and Feliz coming back (in some role) by June.

I don’t think there is any way Texas would give up much for Porcello, even though he is young and talented, for a few months.
