Not so fast on those “Carlos Marmol is going to be traded soon” reports
Mar 6, 2013, 9:08 AM EDT
Yesterday Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago reported that the Cubs “will most likely” trade closer Carlos Marmol before Opening Day. Au contraire says Gordon Wittenmyer:
Nothing to reports of trade interest for Marmol, esp. w/ Detroit. Cubs don’t expect to move him till after season starts. Prob at deadline.

So how does this work? Does Levine totally ignore Wittenmyer in the Cubs’ press box today or does he go up to him and say “nuh uh!”? I almost feel like going over to Mesa today to watch that instead of going over to Goodyear to watch the Indians.

marmol is such an unknown quantity most times, i hope the tigers aren’t seriously entertaining the idea of him anchoring the pen. he’s a mess.

The worst is knowing that someone would have been willing to give up an ace, maybe a #2, a few years ago for him.

I agree, why pick up a closer just as wild as your rookie. Just work with Rondon and the rest of the bullpen.
