Brett Lawrie tweaked his oblique

Brett Lawrie

Playing for Team Canada yesterday, Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie tweaked an oblique and may miss a few days, reports Shi Davidi.

Lawrie, of course, fought oblique problems last year too, causing him to miss most of August and the early part of September. At this point it looks like he’ll only miss some WBC action, but the Jays have to hope that Team Canada is cautious with him.

See, this is why the WBC must be abolished! This never would have happened had Lawrie been at a good, wholesome Major League camp as God intended.

Right, because MLB players NEVER get injured in Spring Training.

      • mattjg - Mar 7, 2013 at 9:51 AM

Well obviously there are exceptions like Mark Teixeira, but he only got hurt because he was ramping up his game too early in anticipation of the Classic.

        Explain Curtis Granderson.

      • mattjg - Mar 7, 2013 at 9:58 AM

Proximity to Teixeira? He momentarily considered playing in the WBC then BLAM, broken arm? Alex Anthopoulos gave Jeffery Loria some magic beans in exchange for Loria putting a curse on the Yankees? Listen, I don’t want your pesky facts getting in the way of my narrative.

@mattjg Well dude, why didn’t you say so in the first place? My bad. Please continue with your narrative.

@heyblueyoustink I’m very interested in how you misspelled my name considering the letter Q is so far away from the letter N on a qwerty keyboard.

        @Francisco -Talent.

      Oh, was that not sarcasm?

This is a re-occurring injury. Not a new one.

Much like overreaction on certain baseball blogs…… argle…..bargle….fargle

Seems to me his oblique might just be weak/

        gargle

Time for Russell Martin to trash talk.

While I agree with the jokes that players also get hurt in MLB camps, I imagine the anxiety from Toronto here would be that Lawrie will lie about his condition and play hurt because of the “importance” of the WBC, risking further injury.
