Below are the starting lineups for this evening’s World Baseball Classic game between Team USA and Team Canada. First pitch is scheduled for just after 4:00 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast on MLB Network.

     TEAM USA TEAM CANADA
1. Jimmy Rollins, SS 1. Tyson Gillies, CF
2. Brandon Phillips, 2B 2. Taylor Green, 3B
3. Ryan Braun, DH 3. Joey Votto, 1B
4. Joe Mauer, C 4. Justin Morneau, DH
5. David Wright, 3B 5. Michael Saunders, RF
6. Ben Zobrist, RF 6. Chris Robinson, C
7. Adam Jones, CF 7. Adam Loewen, LF
8. Eric Hosmer, 1B 8. Pete Orr, 2B
9. Shane Victorino, LF 9. Cale Iorg, SS

SP Derek Holland, LH SP Jameson Taillon, RH

Team USA manager Joe Torre is sitting Giancarlo Stanton, who doesn’t have a hit yet in the 2013 WBC but is obviously one of the premier sluggers in the sport. Zobrist will start in right field in Stanton’s place.

Team Canada is using the same lineup that nailed down a 10-3 win over Mexico on Saturday afternoon.

The winning country will advance out of Pool D along with Team Italy. The loser goes … back to camp.

    The USA lineup sucks.

  2. kjericho43 - Mar 10, 2013 at 3:20 PM

I hope the USA loses. Aside from a couple of players, they’re the only team that seems to not give two shits. The WBC is cool. We have (some) passionate baseball in March and none of us should be complaining.

If they didnt care, why would they bother to go? Have you been watching? So much negativity around a pretty cool event…

      • dowhatifeellike - Mar 10, 2013 at 5:22 PM

It would be a pretty cool event if it were televised on a non-premium channel.

Also if the best and brightest actually participated.

I want the US to win, but except for that, I agree 100%.

Just curious to me that HBT feels the need to highlight the MLB players when this isn’t a MLB game. I guess they just can’t get over the fact that there is more to baseball than the major league season.

      • kjericho43 - Mar 10, 2013 at 4:04 PM

Yeah. It IS a cool event. I have been watching. I dig it. You have to admit though, the foreign teams and their fans are more into the game. That’s all I meant to say. I’m a good American, I swear.

The links go to the players’ RotoWorld pages. This is Cale Iorg’s

        http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/5367/cale-iorg

Does this make you feel more informed? As for why Tyson Gillies gets a link and Iorg doesn’t, you’ll have to ask Drew Silva.

Giancarlo sounds too mexicany to put in vs Canada

    • Old Gator - Mar 10, 2013 at 6:35 PM

Well thank Buddha you didn’t think it sounded too Italian, eh?

      • misterchainbluelightning - Mar 10, 2013 at 6:40 PM

But being Italian doesn’t have a certain connotations associated with it….

Is Dickey an honorary Canadian since he’s a Blue Jay? Does he throw the Canucknuckle ball now? *waah waah waaah..

Nobody is better at undervaluing young talent than Torre.

  5. paperlions - Mar 10, 2013 at 4:22 PM

He’s only the 7th place hitter in the lineup, what’s the big deal….not like he’s a legitimate middle of the order bat or anything.

    — Joe Torre.

      Plausible baseball judgment there.

      • Old Gator - Mar 10, 2013 at 6:37 PM

Is it possible to sustain a toxic overdose of plausible baseball judgment? Then again, is the plausible possible, or the possible plausible, in any sequence of intersecting universes?

I’m sorry. I’ve had too much cream cheese this morning.

  6. proudlycanadian - Mar 10, 2013 at 4:56 PM

So far, so good, but it is not over until it is over. Except for our closer, the bull pen does not have a lot of ML experience.

  7. lyon810 - Mar 10, 2013 at 5:38 PM

If the USA loses, it means they’d have to qualify for the WBC next time. Qualifying takes place in September the year before the tournament.

    • dondada10 - Mar 10, 2013 at 6:16 PM

That’s a great point. That could lead to a domino effect which would have the U.S. out of the next WBC. That would be a disgrace.

      • Old Gator - Mar 10, 2013 at 6:39 PM

“The domino effect.” I haven’t heard that one since I was a student radical.

  8. jwbiii - Mar 10, 2013 at 5:51 PM

Canada takes a 3-2 lead in the 6th on a Votto single off Glen Perkins.
