But the problem is they aren’t building players. I was born in The Bronx and I bleed Yankee blue. But the issue here is their farm system. The Yankees farm system has to suck so badly that they can’t even call up a guy from triple AAA to fill in for a short amount of time. They have to get their farm system up to par so that they can use them in a pinch. Chipper? Lee? C’mon, why not prop Yogi Berra behind the plate, he’s still breathing. Better yet, dig up the Babe. Bet he could still hit one out.

I’m a longtime Yankees fan, but this statement by Cashman seems motivated more by desperation than anything else.I’d say that the chance of Chipper Jones playing third base for the Yankees this season is only marginally better than the chance that Yogi Berra will be their catcher this year.This could be a long year in the Bronx.Sooner or later the Yankees are going to have to take their lumps & rebuild.I don’t think a team this old with absolutely no depth can contend for a world championship. So, I’d suggest starting sooner would be the smart thing to do.
