Faint praise. McDonald has never been able to hit and his defense is league average now. Every team has a 24 yr old playing SS in AAA that can be at least as good as McDonald. Yeah, he might stick on someone’s roster as a utility player, but he’s already not worth the roster spot….much less giving up anything for the luxury of wasting that roster spot on him.

Since 2009, DeRosa and McDonald have essentially had the same peak-and-valley production, but McDonald was better than DeRosa was last season. Additionally, DeRosa’s reoccurring wrist issues have, in the past three years, taken away from what was his main advantage over a player like McDonald…his bat.

Just seems that bringing back a fan favorite on a very small (from a fiscal standpoint) contract wouldn’t be a bad move.

Listen, I loved McDonald’s grittiness and all that, but the man was and is an absolute BLACK HOLE on offense.

Anything that Towers does befuddles me, loves light hitting infielders and washed up relievers, needs G M with some balls to go for the big deal

Back to Toronto, perhaps? I know that they have Maicer Izturis to be their utility infielder right now, but you can always use another warm body, and he provides use as a defensive replacement. Plus, they love him up there.

My guess is that they have their eye on some prospects in the Sox organization and know they love light-hitting players.

It’s just too bad they aren’t outfielders.
