“What would the Boss do?” will last as long as the family owns the team. If/when they sell the team to someone else, references to Steinbrenner will fade away. But, likely not before then. His greatgrandchildren could own the team someday and they will still ask the same questions.

Bill Madden wrote a lazy column last week in the Daily News. Said the Yanks should swing a trade for Chase Headley or Giancarlo Stanton. As if the Marlins or Padres would just give their best player to the Yankees because NY has a need. Let’s say, for a moment, SD & Miami did make either player available, the Yanks have absolutely nothing of value to offer in return. But you see this type of column at least 5 times a season.

I suspect there’d be fewer recourses to the immortal (though dead) Boss if it wasn’t his own kids running the team into one personnel cul-de-sac after another. Unfortunately, George doesn’t seem to care for Ouija Scrabble so I haven’t been able to draw him to the board and solicit his own opinion. Then again, as William Butler Yeats wrote of MacGregor Mathers, “A ghost lover he was / and may have grown more arrogant being a ghost.”

You want a hilarious thought meanwhile? Imagine Scrooge McLoria owning the Borg….
