It’s a combination of his age, injuries and innings pitched throughout his career. Coupled with last years drop in velocity with this years, and its a bad sign of things to come. I watched his last start and he was consistently mid 80′s. apparently, today was more of the same. At this point it’s not about arm strength. If he was capable, he could still achieve good velocity. Arm strength, at this point would just build his endurance, stamina. Sure, coming into spring training, a guy might have decreased velocity of a couple of mph. But Roy is 5-6 mph below his last years average. He’s not making up that huge disparity. It won’t matter if he can still spot the ball. At 85, he’s getting hit. He’s no Maddox

My far bigger concern is that Halladay has diminished velocity, is in his mid-30s and had one of the worst years of his career last year. But I don’t think it’s fair to say he’s “toast” based on one bad Spring training game.
