Love the signing. Have always felt he’s the best defensive CF in baseball which alone would justify the contract. He’s probably surpassed defensively by Bourjos and might dip into “only” top-five by the end of this deal, but still a bargain, especially considering the Bossman Junior deal. Fangraphs had a great article talking about fly ball distances perhaps justifying the sustainability of his power surge. It seems like he and/or the team has come to realize that his power is his most valuable offensive asset and not his speed. That said, watching this guy fly around the bases might be my favorite non-Braun thing to watch as a Brewers fan.

This makes me happy. I’m the definitive old fart that doesn’t give a rat’s ass about metrics and emotionally invests in players. I love watching guys like Gomez play ball and he seems to be a pretty decent young man.

This is a great deal for the Brewers because of the length. He’ll be 30 when the deal ends. They just bought his peak years without buying any decline years, which is fantastic value given his defense, even if his offense regresses a little (and it could actually improve…you never know….Yadi had a career year in 2011 and then kicked the shit out of that year in 2012).

phansen nailed it on the head. . . Now on to Go-Go, I think its a good deal for both parties. Although his OBP needs to improve, his defense is at a gold glove level, and his speed is second to none.

I like this deal. Say what you want about Gomez’s lack of discipline at the plate(he did start showing much more plate discipline last year) and baserunning but he is an awesome, speedy CF’er with a cannon of an arm and he plays all out everyday.

I like this deal for the brewers. Center field defense is critical and with another offensive year like last, he’d be looking at a much bigger deal next year. His plate discipline is lacking and definitely needs improvement but I’d take Gomez at 4 years 27 mil over bj upton at 5 years 75 mil any day.
