The explosion of Tommy John surgery is looking more and more like the explosion of tonsillectomies in the 1950s and 1960s - a fad treatment for all throat problems then, a catch-all for elbow problems today. The equipment is getting so precise, it's showing things doctors have never seen before, things that just MIGHT be common, and treatable with rest, like Billingley's elbow problem, rather than surgery. With no medical training whatever and no access to the tests results, I boldly call baby-shoes (BS) on this "micro-tears" business.

What did his shoulder look like before he was traded to the padres?
