You’re totally wrong on Beasley and Agoos, but this isn’t about Bruce Arena’s giant mouth and tiny brain.

Ryan Zimmerman isn’t on the bench. Big deal – quitcherbitchin. And yes, you slammed a perfectly adequate utility professional for no reason whatever. And no, there aren’t 30-40 clearly better American utility guys than Bloomquist, also a ridiculous statement on your part. No one carries 2 actual 3rd basemen, they carry a starter and a utility backup.

Agoos and Beasley were starting because the US didn’t have anyone better. I’m sure we could easily name 30-40 American 3B that are better than Bloomquist – do you think that any other US National Team has ever started their 40th option in a meaningful game?

This isn’t to take anything away from Bloomquist, he’s a perfectly adequate utility player but there is no reason he should be starting a WBC Quarter Final.

When you consider the possible replacements Bloomquist is probably the worst ever starter for a US National Team in any sport. However at least he wants to play for the team (to the possible detriment to his professional career) so at least that’s good.
