Matt Garza has recovered enough from his lat injury to resume throwing, but he’s not expected to rejoin the Cubs’ rotation until May.

Garza described his progress to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com as “small steps” and said he’s generally “felt all right” the day after throwing.

Garza indicated that he’s aiming for a mid-April return, but manager Dale Sveum all but said that isn’t realistic because “his spring training will basically really start a week from now.”

A more interesting question as far as I am concerned is “When will Garza leave the Cubs rotation and for which team will he be pitching next.”

      I have two answers:

      1) He will leave the Cubs when his contract expires and not a moment sooner.
      2) Not the Red Sox. As soon as he pitches for the Cubs for a few weeks in a row, they will trade him to the Red Sox. So expect sustained health to begin sometime after the trade deadline. Then the Red Sox will offer him more money as a FA than anyone else, and he will accept his second-best offer.
