Making official what was expected, the Cardinals announced that Adam Wainwright will start on Opening Day.

Last season Kyle Lohse got the Opening Day assignment for St. Louis, while Wainwright started Game 3 in his comeback from Tommy John elbow surgery. Wainwright previously got the Opening Day nod for the Cardinals in 2009

Meanwhile, contract extension negotiations between Wainwright and the Cardinals seemingly haven’t progressed much recently, but general manager John Mozeliak said earlier this week that the two sides continue to talk.

Meanwhile, Kyle Lohse continues to work out alone and hold out for a big 3-year contract. That’s a long way down from opening day starter for the Cardinals. Hopefully Wainwright’s negotiations go better than that.
