Chase Headley could replace David Wright on USA roster for WBC finals

If the United States can make it to the World Baseball Classic finals Chase Headley could replace the injured David Wright on the roster.

Wright was scratched from last night’s game against the Dominican Republic with back soreness, but WBC rules bar teams from replacing players mid-round.

Headley told Bill Center of the San Diego Union Tribune that Team USA officials contacted him and the Padres third baseman made it very clear that he’s interested in playing. But first USA will have to beat Puerto Rico in tonight’s game.

Why Chase Headley wasn’t already in the Roster is a mystery to me.

Because that’s not how you make a roster. Teams want their starters getting consistent at-bats, wherever they are. Think for a half a minute, will ya?

And everyone who thumbs up’d that post, baaaaah. Evaluate what you’re reading you sheep. Get into your goat-minds.

Hmmm – I hadn’t even though to look for my “goat-mind” until now.
It’s really cool – although I had hoped soda cans and socks would taste better…

That argument is immediately contradicted by the fact that there 3 starting catchers for Team USA (though arguably one of them shouldn’t be a starting catcher) and 4 starting outfielders.

No no no – the teams don’t want their catchers behind the plate every day at this point. The larger point is that it’s all about what the teams want.

I see that Zobrist is playing 3rd tonight instead of Bloomquist, which is what should have happened last night. That was a terrible decision by Torre.

they didn’t have headley on the team cause I’m sure the Pads don’t want their star slugger rotting on the bench and not getting any work in during the whole WBC

“Headley could replace David Wright” I was hoping it was going to say “Headley replaces Arod” for the next five years, but then I woke up.
