Orioles trade Joe Flacco’s brother to Red Sox

Shortly after Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was named Super Bowl MVP his brother, Orioles minor league first baseman Mike Flacco, said he might give up baseball to try football.

He later backtracked on that, saying he planned to continue playing in the Orioles’ farm system, but today the Orioles traded him to the Red Sox for cash considerations.

Mike Flacco isn’t really a prospect. For one thing he’s already 26 years old and has played just four total games above Single-A. For another thing he’s a first baseman with a .378 career slugging percentage.

But now there’s only one Flacco playing for a Baltimore sports team. And this gives some crazy headline-writer a chance to use “Baltimore trades Flacco!”

After Joe’s contract, I’m not sure how many Baltimore fans would be upset…

He’ll be manning 1st base for the big league team by July.

Unless he also ends up on the DL.

The Red Sox are going to be the first team to be issued a Disabled Book.
