Alderson couldn’t prevent Wright from playing if he wanted to….teams can only hold a player back if the player is currently injured and incapable of playing or if the player finished the previous year on the DL. Otherwise, the team has no say whatsoever.

Nor should he. As we’ve seen, players can get injured fetching sandwiches, throwing out gum, surprising their children, sneezing, by a pop-up machine attack, and of course, during meaningless spring training games. He got hurt doing what he enjoys.
