I agree with those who say taking the L out to Rosemont is a pain. If only there were some mode of transportation where people would not be reliant on trains and buses to get them to the ballpark.

Well, let’s see here. Out of the loop, it’s fifteen minutes on the Red Line to Addison and a five minute walk to the ballpark or 40 minutes on the Blue Line and a shuttle of indeterminate length to the new location. For most people, that’s going to be the difference. It massively inconveniences anybody taking a train from the North Shore, and only benefits people living, as Alex said, in the Northwest burbs. So yeah, more centrally located. So take your yuppie whining and shove it.

Addison is a central location for everybody?!? You’ve obviously never had to sit on a Metra for an hour, walk to a red line, and then sit for another 20 minute ride.

Oh, boo hoo. The yuppies in Evanston will have to double back on the Blue. Cry me a freaking river.

I live in wrigleyville, as the other said above, getting to Rosemont is a pain in the ass…and I doubt that the free land is right off the train either, so you’re talking bus or train, to train, to bus or shuttle service to nice new ball park to watch a crappy team?

I’m with Kevin on this one. It would make going to game awful for City dwellers. Either a car ride on 90 in rush hour traffic or a long ass train ride with a not super short bus ride after you get off the Blue line. Sure, it makes it great for those of us in the Northwest ‘burbs, but a huge commitment for anyone else.

maybe they need to see if a majority of fans want a new
stadium, I don’t doubt they will make a gazillion dollars if
they build something nice.
maybe the fans want night games and some fun attractions
at the ball park to make it family friendly.

Maybe, but Addison is a nice, central, accessible location for everybody. Getting out to Rosemont can be a pain in the ass. When I went to school in Evanston, I stopped flying out of O’Hare partially because the L trip was obnoxiously long. For anybody not already living on the northern branch of the Blue line, heading into the Loop and then doubling all the way back out to Rosemont is going to be a pain in the ass.

Trains……Cubs fans don’t live in Wrigleyville anyways……they’ll travel to Cubs games anytime. Especially to a new, nice, comfortable ballpark.

As much as I love Wrigley, I cant agree with you more! No truer words have been written about our aldermen, taxes and AROGANT Mayor! Not to mention the rooftop owners. Lets see how much their property will be worth if the Cubs high tail it out of the area. In what other city, or municipality do such owners wield as much power as these people do? Its a JOKE!. Alderman Tunney who is the alderman of the ward Wrigley is situated in, gets MAJOR campaign contributions from said rooftop owners, so guess who’s side he’s on?? From all accounts he is holding Ricketts’ feet to the fire on behalf of the rooftops. They are insisting that instead of the Cubs installing signage to generate more revenue INSIDE THEIR OWN STADIUM (which may or may not block their views) that they should be installed on top of their buildings across the street! If this isn’t agreed too, they will not allow the Cubs any additional night games! So say what you will about Rosemont and the Stephens family, they are VERY pro-business! They will give the Cubs what they want for the priviledge of having them operate their business there.

Grab this deal and run. Why spend 500 mil on an old decrepit park. Contact the architects of Miller Park and have them build something similar, change is up a little, but give us a retractable. Chicago sucks, high taxes with 50 aldermen and a power hungry Mayor; who wants to deal with that. Wrigley CANNOT survive another 100 years, accept that now and move on. Take this deal and RUN………to Rosemont where the Cubs can compete with the rest of the league with respect to the night game schedule. If you don’t think the Cubs schedule which is out of sync with the rest of the league is part of the problem, then hop over to your favorite rooftop and hope it doesn’t collapse.

For those not familiar with Rosemont, it’s a suburb that exists only to enrich the Stephens family. The current mayor’s father, who was the mayor for fifty years, magically amassed a fortune on a humble mayor’s salary.

If they somehow built a stadium there, it would be the soulless corporate stadium to end all such stadiums.

the Cubs (and Rick Reilly) think they have trouble financially now? try being as bad as they are and moving to the burbs and see how difficult it is to get people to go to games when you’re a perennial last place team.
