CJ is a top tier starter? Are you on cat tranquilizers?
I agree the offense will be good, but the replacement pitchers are below average. Hoping that one of those three to be average is a risk.

Agreed. There are certainly question marks, especially in Hanson, but the Angels gave up an inconsistent reliever to get him, and they have two serviceable guys behind him in Jerome Williams and Garret Richards, who are both certainly #5 guys at this point and not the horrendous AAA depth the Angels had previously (seriously – Matt Palmer was starting for the Angels not that long ago). The Angels only have two top-tier starters in Weaver and Wilson (and let’s remember how good Wilson was in the first half last year – so good that even though his elbow problems made him terrible for the back half, he STILL finished with a respectable cumulative total), but they have another five guys that can probably be league-average starters.

And a ridiculous offense.

I have a hard time seeing the Angels with a negative run differential unless the pitching is among the league’s absolute worst. They may not have the names they did last year but as I said a couple days ago on the season preview, Weaver is a stud, Wilson is a capable #2, and if just one of Vargas/Blanton/Hanson ends up being at least average, their pitching staff will be fine.

As a Phillies fan I always loved Ryan. Good guy and had a few really good years with the Phillies. With that said, thank god they didn’t sign him to that 4 yr 44mil deal that was reported. As bad as the Paplebon contract is, at least he’s pitching the past 2 years..

I feel for Ryan, I knew him personally from his time in Philly and he’s a great guy. I hope he can bounce back from this.

Damn that sucks. Not that Frieri isn’t capable of closing for a while, it would just give the Angels more flexibility in the bullpen if Madson was healthy.
