I read that he has actually been working out at their academy daily. I’m not sure what a “formal throwing program” is supposed to mean…..but he’s not just working out on his own.

Most likely because they’re occupied with the major and minor league players currently in camp. They’re not going to send one of their coaches down for a single pitcher, no matter how highly rated, and leave their own camps shorthanded.

According to Goold in one of his Monday chats, Martinez is throwing at the Cardinals’ academy, but it’s obviously not the same kind of work he would get in spring training. The article Aaron links to explains why he isn’t on a formal throwing program.

I believe they have an “Academy” in the DR but have no idea aout its actual structure.

Why they don’t have someone “officially” down there supervising his throwing program is baffling.

Maybe a dumb question as I don’t know much about it, but don’t the Red Birds have some kind of presence down in the DR? An instructional camp or something along those lines? If so, why isn’t this guy involved in some type of “formal” throwing program?

When/if he makes it out of the DR he’s headed to extended spring training I’d suspect.

I saw the kid pitch in person last year, for lack of a bettter term he’s “something else”.
