Dominican Republic third baseman — and Dodgers shortstop — Hanley Ramirez left in the sixth inning of last night’s WBC final after jamming his thumb while diving for a ball three innings earlier. Later reports indicated that it’s not serious, but he will be examined by Dodgers doctors when he returns to major league camp today.

The Dodgers have to hope that even if it’s minor that it doesn’t cause Ramirez to miss time. As noted yesterday, it’s already been weeks since he’s played any shortstop, and if he’s expected to be the Dodgers’ Opening Day shortstop, he’s gonna need some reps.

Big Spender Doom Watch! Ramirez is now hurt. Crawford isn’t ready to play in the regular season and Greinke is questionable.

Actually Ned Coletti said he thinks Crawford will be ready for opening day and Greinke is not going to start in his scheduled place in the rotation but is now lined up to start on april 5. Greinke will use the extra spring start to build up his arm strength

Coletti also believes in the easter bunny. See the latest update on Ramirez.

Almost reminds me of the Chase Headley story, after it happened they said jammed not serious, day to day, then the next day it got pretty swollen and X-rays found a fracture. Now he is out 4-6 weeks.

Sounds to me like the Hanster still hasn’t been able to rid himself of that accursed blood diamond studded .342 amulet he got from Scrooge McLoria. He’s really going to need some journeyman utility infielder biding his time in Triple-A finally to go throw that damned thing into the crater on Mount Doom.

Ramirez at 3B. Give Gordon another shot at SS.
