I totally agree. Teams win with pitching and defense, and since the Tigers' defense isn't great (it isn't as bad a some feel it is, either) having more pitching options is a plus. Porcello more valuable than given credit for, too, and has had a solid spring.

Yes, but what do they have to trade? The Tigers appear to want a lot of return, getting at least two upgrades at corner OF, closer, or SS.

If i'm the Phillies I'm keeping an eye on this one. Especially if Halladay can't get back into form and has to go on the DL for an extended period in the future.

Scherzer or Fister are bound to end up on the D.L. at some point and that's where plugging in Smyly would be beneficial. If they trade Porcello who would they bring up in case of injury Crosby? Keeping Porcello is the right move at this point.

Fister was on the DL twice last year, Scherzer once. I see no reason to trade the only option to fill the rotation hole. The Tigers have basically nothing in form of decent starters on the farm, if they trade Porcello and Smyly scuffles or Fister hits the DL, do they go with a 4 man rotation? Use Duane Below for a 3 inning start and tax the bullpen the rest of it?

No need to trade a 24 with 4 years starting experience that is only counted on for 150-175 IPs

I agree with Craig.

Look, Jhonny Peralta isn't the best but he's serviceable, and I think "closer by committee" is at least worth a shot. Tigers shouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of Porcello just yet.
