A pitcher’s winning percentage may be the least important pitching statistic in determining his talent. It’s dumb to place any weight on something so circumstantial.

Phil Niekro “hovered around .500″….with a Braves team that was typically nowhere close to .500. Going 21-20 for a team that wins 64 games is actually being pretty awesome.

Dickey has been an excellent pitcher the last three years for some pretty bad Mets teams. His lack of wins in 2011 and 2010 has much more to do with players around him. Hint: look at other stats *besides* pitcher wins, or be ready to declare Storm Davis an awesome pitcher in 1989.
