Having lived in Thousand Oaks before, I have to disagree with 18thstreet. It is one of the more conservative areas of Southern California, along with Orange County.

I live in Thousand Oaks. East Ventura County (Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Simi Valley) are rather conservative, and were represented for years by Elton Gallegly until he retired and the district maps were re-drawn. West County (Oxnard & Ventura) leans more liberal. Ms. Brownley did NOT win her seat easily, even though most moderate conservatives (like myself) can’t stand Strickland and voted across party lines. There’s a large contingent out here of Tea Party type folks.

No it isn’t. A very conservative (read: Republican) district would probably elected a very conservative Republican. That’s your first clue that it isn’t.

But you can delve into the numbers. Charlie Cook found it has a PVI of +2 for the Democrats. If it was a conservative area, David Dreier (who had ascended to be Chair of the powerful Rules Committees) would have been reelected. Instead, he saw the writing on the wall and opted to retire.

Please don’t make stuff up, whether about baseball clutchiness or anything else. In G-d we trust. All others must bring data.

Considering the only foray into politics that I’m aware of was making TV ads against a stem cell research initiative during the 2006 election, I certainly hope he does not find his way into Congress.

Suppan has made over $58 million playing baseball so I imagine he can finance his own campaign very nicely.
Wealthy people of both parties have been buying seats in the congress for over a hundred years. Nothing new here…..
