Because the Cubs are Theo’s team, and Theo saw how important draft pick compensation is. He used it as a tool to build the Sox into champions, getting guys like Ellsbury and Buchholz.

I still don’t know why the Cubs haven’t gone after him for $13 million on a one-year contract. They paid that much annually to Dempster (2008, four years for $52 million) and Jackson (2012, four years for $52 million), so what’s the harm in trying to sign a player they may be able to flip at the trade deadline for some more prospects?

We can all debate this until we’re blue in the face, but Lohse isn’t going to get either what he thinks he deserves or what he actually deserves. Teams have had months to have a look at him and they’ve all come to the same conclusion that most of us have, that a big multiyear deal is too much of a risk for a 34 year old and the loss of a draft pick, regardless of an excellent 2012

Lohse will end up with the same sort of deal Michael Bourn got at Cleveland, less than the market rate for a player of equivalent talent ($75million for BJ Upton) but enough that honour was satisifed. I find it hard to believe Boras doesn’t have a few tricks up his sleeve and that Lohse will sign within a week or so, prob for about 3/$35m.

Tigers only have 1 protected 1st round pick (the 9th pick from Appel). Their 2nd pick is the 14th overall pick, which is not protected (only top 10 picks are).

I never want to see another post about him waiting around hoping somebody will sign him. I used to be indifferent about this guy– now I can’t stand him. Sick of this.

Which is why he isn’t signed.

Because only the Red Sox would be dumb enough to pay him Dempster money (I just pray they don’t notice Jeff Suppan is still available)….and even THEY wouldn’t sign him with the draft pick attached.

If he didn’t post an ERA of almost 6 while pitching in the AL for the first time (Seriously, who doesn’t see where that one is going?)
