This is one situation where I do not really see any DOOM. (Yet.) As others have pointed out , as long as Sabathia, Kuroda, Pettitte, Nova and Phelps are healthy there really is no real need to panic. As it isone of those 5 will not really need to take the ball for a start until 5/1 anyway. I do think they will need lots of 6th inning guy though all year long. Figuring Joba 7th, Robertson 8th, and Mo 9th, they will still need guys to get the 3 outs after the starter is done after 5. Given the age and other issues present it is actually a good thing to know that the possibilty of a healthy Pineda and (what should be) a highly motivated Hughes are already in house. Hughes, having finished with arbitration, will be pitching for his FA future. I have said for quite a few yeas now that the issues are not the pitching, its the hitting. I know some people will rant and rave about the great home run totals and run production overall...but there is still low consistency. Pitchers find theselves on the plus side of laugher on turn in the rotation, and losing 2-1 or 3-2 the next. Overll as far as Wang goes, f he is really serious about a comeback it might be disservie for NYY tosign him...unless he is willing to spend a goodly part of 2013 the minors.

Can we please end the "what would The Boss do?" or "The Boss would never do this" stuff? Please?

The Boss, at the height of his power, was maniacal, mean, vitriolic and no where near what he became once he got older and let his baseball people do what they do.

Yes, Hal, as of right now, seems intent on running this team more like a business with a focus on resetting that luxe tax %, like it or not, Yanks fans. So lower your expectations and hope this team can scrap (pardon the lingo) it's way into a fun, entertaining seasons (include 2014, thanks). Then, once the % resets at 17.5%, you can demand your way into spending like The Boss would have.

Signing Lohse is NOT the answer. At least the answer to the Yanks problems... Unless he can hit AND play SS too.

I think its time to start spending some money like the old Yankees. Lohse is still out there. As a long time Yanks fan I know The Boss is looking down and shaking his head. He would never let his team fall apart like this.

It's true they can get by without a 5th starter on Opening Day. It would be nice, however, to have Wang standing by in the wings. He looked very good in the WBC.

It is my understanding that Phelps had been pitching well this spring, prior to his last (poor) start. If Hughes is OK and just needs to build up his innings in the minors, the Yankees could probably go with 4 starters until he comes off the DL. The 3 geezers who are at the top of the Yankee rotation are quite good as is the geezer who owns the 9th inning.
