Hughes never lived up to his billing and Joba never should have left the pen. Kennedy has had the best career of the three but he would never have been able to cut it in NY. He had an unbelievably bad attitude and couldn’t handle the pressure. By the end of their careers, Kennedy will have the better numbers of the three but I will always view him as one of those pitchers who simply couldn’t hack it in NYC.

I am glad to see Wang get another chance with the NYY. I am not convinced yet that they really need him. This post does not give much in the way of details. Is this definitely a guaranteed Major League Deal? If it is a ML deal it seems to me either there really is a trade brewing for some (please god) offense, or the situatiion with Hughes, Nova, Phelps, and maybe even Pineda is a bit more murky then discussed, and maybe involves more than just merely “undewhelming” performances. If he can get back to anything close to what he was before the Lis Franc injury, and stay healthy, this is a definite plus. I wonder though if the trade options will be diminished at all by Garland being released though.

Uh, you need to look at a few advanced stats to see how Kennedy is a much more valuable pitcher than the waaay over hyped Joba (Hediki 2.0)

Just looking at a pitcher’s ERA doesn’t cut it anymore.

Joba had 43 mostly pathetic starts with a WHIP around 1.50. Kennedy has had 98 starts, around a 1.22 WHIP.

Ian Kennedy would be the Yanks’ #2 starter right now. Joba is … what Joba is right now. A fat disgruntled over-compensated overly entitled entitled low leverage reliever.

In defense of Joba… The Yanks jerked him around a lot and didn’t allow him to settle into a stable role until recently. He also has not had the overall level of health Kennedy has played with.

You also cannot discredit the pressure of having to perform in NY and for the head hunting NY media vs the anonymity of pitching in the desert.

I do not want to see Nova get traded. You don’t come across many young inexpensive, established (I will concede that some of his statistics have been misleading) pitchers that are up to the task of pitching in NY.

Kennedy had one very solid year in the shittiest offensive division in baseball. Sandwhiched around that were two season of 4ish ERA. Or…exactly what Joba’s ERA as a starter in the much tougher AL East.

And I’m confused as to what Igawa had to do with Wang if “no one outspends the Yankees if the Yankees want someone.”

Option D: Sign Wang to an extension after his excellent 2006-07 seasons and pass on overpaying for the all-hype Kei Igawa.

How many wins did Igawa have for the Yankees again? Two?

Only $23 million per win, ha ha.

$$$ much better spent on a k extension for Wang…but then again Cashman isn’t the most creative GM.

Please I hope no one here ever quotes me on this. But here I go. This is one of those very rare occasions that I agree with Heyman about the Yankees might now have something to say about a possible trade. There was talk earlier about the Rangers scouting Joba. Well who knows now the Yankees might be able to add a piece that might entice a Rangers trade. We’ll have to wait and see.

Option C: The Yanks would’ve been better off not giving the money to either Igawa or Wang.

And honestly, I don’t see how (besides being Asian) the two pitchers are connected to each other.

The Yankees signed Igawa in 2007. Wang was a free-agent after 2009.

sure, my reply is that the yankees could have easily dwarfed anything the nationals were offering.

They chose to give a kings ransom to Igawa..look how that turned out.

They would have been better off giving more $ to Wang instead. He sure could have helped last season.
