Man who compared Oliver Perez to Sandy Koufax says Jose Valverde has lost 18 pounds, is hitting 95 in bullpen sessions

Mar 25, 2013, 4:31 PM EST

Scott Boras, fresh off of landing Kyle Lohse a gig, is pivoting to his next unemployed client, Jose Valverde:

OK, dubious headline aside (though Boras is known for crazy hyperbole), I suppose I could see Valverde hiting 95 on the radar gun. The problem all last season, though, was that his fastball was as straight as an arrow, not that it was too slow. I’d be curious to see those fastballs is what I’m saying.

As for the 18 pounds: if so, I’ll put him in the BSOHL column.

I see the Big Potato switched to the Scott Boras diet, nothing but fresh blood, steak, and patiently aged cheese.

Well, Perez and Koufax were both left-handed pitchers whose careers came to an end at age 30…

So is he a leaner steak?

Can we also not forget he put out a spreadsheet explaining that Johnny Damon was going to break Pete Rose’s record….and still be banging out 200 hits a year when he was 44 because he was so durable and a unique physical specimen?

Valverde, singin’ for his supper. He’s in career salvage mode. Bet he comes back more humble, too.

    Someone finish off Boras, please.
