Boston announced that Jon Lester will start on Opening Day, making it the third straight season that he’ll get the Game 1 assignment.

Lester is coming off his worst season, going 9-14 with a 4.82 ERA after four straight years with an ERA under 3.50, but he’s looked very good all spring with a 0.90 ERA in five starts.

He’ll face CC Sabathia and the Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Monday afternoon. Lester is 9-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 22 career starts versus New York.

Unless his arm fell off I don’t know who else they would give this to.

Their highest paid pitcher (and player) John Lackey?

God Theo Epstein turned out to be a dumb dildo.

Or their second highest paid pitcher…..Matt Clement.

God Ben Cherington is probably going to turn out to be a dumb dildo.

Matt Clement was an all-star. And then he was hit in the face by a batted ball and was never the same again.

Theo Epstein TOTALLY should have predicted that. /s

Does anyone know what happened to that unknown batter? Because I heard he was terrible at baseball, too.

Goddammit, I did it again. I can’t NOT confuse Clement and Dempster.

And no, Clement had an ERA of almost 9 for the month leading up to getting hit in the grape.

The projected Red Sox starting rotation in alphabetical order:
    Buchholz
    Dempster
    Doubront
    Lackey
    Lester
Obviously the Red Sox picked their Opening Day starter by going in reverse alphabetical order.

Lester will probably face Dickey in his second start of the season.
