“Life Begins on Opening Day”

Apr 1, 2013, 11:31 AM EDT

Lots of Opening Day broadcasts will have nostalgia-filled montages. But they’re not gonna be as good as this one from the MLB Film and Video Archive.

Highlights: snippets of Mel Allen, Jerry Coleman, Curt Gowdy, Milo Hamilton, Ernie Harwell, Ralph Kiner, Tony Kubek, Vin Scully and Mike Shannon on the mic, Bob Feller, Jackie Robinson and all kinds of other goodness.

Enjoy:

Those Toronto Blueberries unis were something, weren’t they?

I think the red-on-red Cleveland uni’s were really the best look for Frank Robinson.

And what better way to kick off the season than a Yankee/Red Sox square off, the battle for the AL East cellar begins!

Opening day should be a national holiday.

OPENING DAY! (pt 2) Go Blue Go!! Lets get win number one against last years champs and show why we have the $200 million dollar man on the mound.

Obviously, for us Nats fans, Ryan Zimmerman’s walk-off to open Nationals Park was special. But so was Hank Aaron tying Babe Ruth on Opening Day. Or Bob Feller pitching a no-hitter. Or Jackie Robinson, just playing on Opening Day.

Best day of the year, Merry Christmas all.
