Phillies claim Ezequiel Carrera off waivers from Indians

Apr 2, 2013, 3:15 PM EDT

Ezequiel Carrera AP

Last week the Indians designated Ezequiel Carrera for assignment and today the Phillies claimed the 25-year-old outfielder off waivers.

Carrera hasn’t hit much in the majors so far, but he’s a center fielder with very good speed and has shown some decent on-base skills in the minors. He’ll be a backup outfielder for the Phillies, who designated Rule 5 pick Ender Inciarte for assignment to make room for Carrera on the 40-man roster.

Assuming that no other teams claim Inciarte off waivers the Diamondbacks will probably take him back.

25 years old? Too young for Cashman.

    In a baseball sense, people.

Aww, no Ender’s Game headlines for the Phillies…

So….ya think Mayberry has picked up the hint that they don’t want him around?

Well as a Indians fan Carrera’s defense was pretty bad last year, hope he figured out how to catch a routine fly ball

It’s a whole new world when Indians castoffs end up on the Phillies and the Yankees and the Indians have the player that the Yankees desperately need but said they couldn’t afford. None of that explains trading for Vernon Wells, however, but it’s funny nonetheless.
